Entry Fee for the 947 Vitality Short Ride is R440.00 (incl. 15% VAT) will apply. Entries close on 16 October 2019 or when entry capacity is reached. ENTRY FEES ARE NON REFUNDABLE. Online entries without payment are not saved and are NOT valid entries. An entry is not considered valid until payment has been received. No protest will be entertained in this regard.
No participant may compete without wearing a cycling helmet or timing chip. Only commercially produced helmets, meeting ANSI Z90/4 or Snell standards, may be worn. Gloves are recommended.
Participants must be older than the age of 10 years on the day of the 947 Vitality Short Ride. Special dispensation may be applied for in writing to the Race Office for younger entrants. Any entrant under 13 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
Every cyclist shall ride carefully and with due regard to the safety of other cyclists and road users.
Participants must obey the instructions of the traffic officers and marshals and comply strictly with the rules of the road, save where authorised by traffic officers and marshals. In particular, participants are warned to keep to the left of the road and to remain on the sections of the road demarcated for them. Participants may be required to stop at certain intersections on the instruction of authorised marshals.
Only conventional bicycles and conventional tandems may be ridden. BMX bicycles and tandems with disc or covered wheels are deemed to be conventional. Bicycles and tandems with fairing or attachments to improve airflow, recumbent, extended bicycles, tricycles, machines known as human powered vehicles (HPVs) and other similar machines are deemed to be unconventional and are not permitted to enter without the express permission of the organisers. Please apply for special dispensation in writing to the Race Office.
Bicycles, tandems and other machines fitted with unconventional handlebars including triathlon-bars, aerobars, clip-ons, prayer-bars, turned-up-bars and cow-bars are not permitted in any category. ATB bar-ends are permitted on Mountain Bikes.
Any participant who is in any doubt about whether his bicycle, tandem or machine is suitable to be ridden in the event and, if so, in which category, is advised to contact the organisers well beforehand.
No E-Bikes are allowed to be ridden in the 947 Vitality Short Ride.
A cyclist may not use a personal music system, radio communication device or cellular telephone whilst cycling. Officials and the event reserves the right to disqualify any rider that contravenes this rule.
It is compulsory for every cyclist to wear a valid RaceTec timing chip linked to your personal profile. You may not ride with someone else’s race number or RaceTec timing chip. RaceTec is the official timing company to the 947 Vitality Short Ride 2019. Timing queries must be addressed to RaceTec or Race Office no later than 31 January 2020 for consideration. No protest will be entertained in this regard. The Organising Committee may, at their discretion, decline an entry from anyone who is under suspension or has been banned by any sports controlling body for having used illegal drugs or any other substances; or refuse to allow anyone to participate in the race where good grounds exist for such a refusal.
Seeding is the process that puts cyclists of similar ability into the same starting group. It is done to ensure a safe event and to place cyclists with others against whom they can compete enjoyably and safely. Start times will be calculated using Racetec results between 1 Oct 2018 and 30 Sept 2019.
Seeding, start groups and start times will be emailed and/or sms’d to participants and will be available from late October 2019 on http://www.947ridejoburg.co.za
A cyclist may not start or attempt to start before his/her designated start group . Any cyclist who does so will be disqualified. No protest will be entertained in this regard.
A cyclist may move down to a later start group without being penalised.
No participant may sell their number or allow anyone else to ride under that number. Should a participant be in breach of this, she/he will be immediately disqualified and banned from participating in the 947 Vitality Short Ride for 5 years. No protest will be entertained in this regard. A participant may organise a substitution with the Race Office which can be done for a fee of R200.00 within the prescribed period. The original entry fee will not be refunded. The person who is being substituted will have their number removed from the database and a new number will be allocated. Seeding will be according to the new participant’s individual seeding index.
Every rider shall at all times display his / her race number, pinned to the back of his/her shirt as well as the race number board displayed on the handlebars.
Participants must complete the course in 3 hours or less (after last start group) in order to qualify as a finisher and receive a medal. Participants who fail to reach the cut-off point in a specified time will be withdrawn and will not be permitted to continue. Cyclists are expected to be able to ride at an average speed of 15km/h. Cut-off times will be published in the race pack and will be strictly adhered to. Support services will similarly be withdrawn for that section of the route and the route will be opened to normal traffic. Cut-off times may be changed OR additional cut-offs may be instituted at any time should the Race Director deem it necessary for the safety of participants. No protest will be entertained in this regard.
Participants must complete the course entirely under their own power and slipstreaming any vehicle or motorbike is prohibited.
No participant may cause or allow any motorised or human powered machine, other than that of another participant, to follow or second him/her.
Cyclists are not permitted to participate in the 947 Vitality Short Ride with any live animal(s) on their bicycle or person, unless otherwise agreed to in writing by the organising committee.
The routes will be as supplied, and participants must familiarise themselves with the route they are riding. The Organising Committee reserve the right to alter the routes in accordance with safety, traffic, construction or other constraints. No protest relating to deviation will be entertained.
Any reasonable medical or emergency evacuation costs incurred on behalf of a rider by the 947 Vitality Short Ride will be for the cost of the cyclist.
The routes will be as supplied and participants must familiarise themselves with the route they are riding. The Organising Committee reserve the right to alter the routes in accordance with safety, traffic, construction or other constraints. No protest relating to deviation will be entertained.
There will be Medical personnel at the start, on the route and at the finish should any cyclist require it.
A cyclist may not participate whilst under the influence of alcohol or any drug or medication that prevents or might prevent a cyclist from properly controlling his or her bicycle. If a cyclist is found to be under the influence and poses a danger to other riders, they may be pulled from the route, disqualified and or banned from future events.
No form of abuse of other riders or violence against any person at the event will be tolerated. Any person found guilty of this will be banned from participating in any future events.
Failure to comply with any of the foregoing Terms and Conditions and any other relevant rules may result in disqualification. A protest committee will adjudicate any dispute, including one regarding the interpretation of these Terms and Conditions, and its ruling shall be final and binding. Protests must be submitted in writing within 2 hours of the finishing time to which the protest applies and be accompanied by a deposit of R200.00. The deposit will be refunded if the protest is upheld.
If you are entering for any person other than yourself (“third party”) then by accepting these Terms and Conditions, you do so being duly authorised by the third party to accept the Terms and Conditions on such third party’s behalf and you agree to indemnify the organisers and their representatives harmless against all claims.
Force Majeure: No entry fee shall be refunded to a participant for a cancellation of the Event due to acts of God (so called Force Majeure), which acts shall include but not be limited to adverse weather conditions, riots, strikes, political unrest and/or any other occurrence not within the control of the event organiser.
Cancellation Policy: No refund shall be given in the event that a participant cancels their entry into the event. The event organiser may consider a refund under exceptional circumstances such as illness and/or any other extraordinary circumstance. In that case, the Event organiser will evaluate a request for refund on its merits and such refund shall be at the discretion of the Event Organiser.
Waiver: Participants take part entirely at their own risk and agree that they shall have no claim whatsoever against Primedia (Pty) Ltd, its directors, employees, the Organising Committee, any individual or official, marshal, assistant, helper or agent, the sponsors or any local authority or their employees, in respect of any loss or damage whatsoever which participants may suffer arising from any injury to their person or loss or damage to their property as a result of, or arising out of, whether directly or indirectly, the participants' arrival and departure there from, attendance at registration, prize-giving or other function thereof, any loss or damage to bicycles or other equipment, however such loss or damage may arise. Persons signing this entry form as guardian of a minor hereby consent to such minor being bound by the a foregoing and further indemnify the organisers and aforementioned parties to the extent, of any, to which such minor is not capable of waiving his/her rights as stipulated above. Persons taking part in the 947 Vitality Short Ride as part of a team and whose entries were made on their behalf are deemed to have accepted these terms and conditions by virtue of their participation in the 947 Vitality Short Ride.
Indemnity: The participant agrees to abide by the rules of the 947 Vitality Short Ride, and confirms that she/he has read them, and understands that she/he takes part in the 947 Vitality Short Ride at his/her own risk and indemnifies the sponsors and/or organisers against any claim which may result from his/her participation. The participant further understands that it is his/her responsibility to be medically fit to take part in the 947 Vitality Short Ride. This indemnity applies equally to teams entering under the Terms and Conditions and any other relevant rules entry. In entering the 947 Vitality Short Ride the participant understands that Organising Committee will take photographs / footage of the event including participants to the event and she/he consents to such photographs / footage being taken at the event and being used for marketing, promotional and publicity purposes at the Organising Committee’s sole discretion and that no royalties will be payable. The participant further understands and accepts that the photographs / footage are and will remain the property of the sponsors and/or organisers.
You agree that Primedia (Pty) Limited (“Primedia”) may collect and use your personal information for purposes of organising and managing the Discovery 947 Ride Joburg event and your participation therein, which includes sharing it with our appointed race organiser for purposes of organising and managing the event and your participation therein. Primedia and the race organiser will use and process your personal information in accordance with the Primedia Privacy Notice available at www.primedia.co.za. You may write to us at firstname.lastname@example.org should you have any questions or concerns regarding how we or the race organiser will use the personal information you provide to us.
You agree that Primedia may share your personal information with Discovery Limited and its subsidiaries (“Discovery”) in order for them to record your participation in the race if you are a Vitality client. Discovery Vitality members shall be awarded points in accordance with the Vitality Main Rules and the Vitality points earning rules for points earning events. Discovery will use and process your personal information in accordance with its privacy statement available at https://www.discovery.co.za/corporate/terms-and-conditions , Section B.
